About

The Ingenuity Process offers a proven guide for clear thinking. The Oxford English Dictionary defines “Ingenuity” as “the quality of being clever, original and inventive” – and this is what the Ingenuity Process is designed to achieve.

Developed by researchers at Nottingham University Business School’s Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Ingenuity Process seeks to strengthen the link between imagination and reason. It embeds pre-concept innovation activities in creative problem-solving and decision-making. At it’s damental, it is centred on three basic steps towards improved outcomes:

  • Define precisely what is wanted
  • Discover as many alternatives as possible
  • Determine which is the most effective

Ingenuity is taught to students and business executives at the University of Nottingham’s campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. It’s success has been demonstrated in a range of spheres and industries, from small and medium-sized enterprises to major organisations. It has been used by more than 10,000 undergraduates, more than 5,000 post graduates and more than 1,000 entrepreneurs and managers from 32 countries.

The process is now supported by a new book, Ingenuity, written by the Ingenuity co-devisers Simon Mosey, Martin Binks and Paul Kirkham.

“In today’s climate of uncertainty the greatest resource that humanity posseses is the mind. It is readily available, inexhaustible and free at point of use. And the currency of the mind is ideas.”
